Total Solar Eclipse / April 8, 2024

Even with mostly cloudy skies and nearby rain, teachers used the 2024 total solar eclipse as a learning experience.

Classes at Guntown Middle watched as the sky darkened when the Moon passed between the Sun and Earth. Ideally, clear skies are needed to have the full eclipse experience. However, students were able to observe an eerie daytime darkness from the eclipse that was still noticeable with today's cloud cover. Outside lighting at the school automatically came on at the peak of the eclipse. Classes also learned reasons why the special eclipse glasses had to be worn in order to prevent eye damage. The next total solar eclipse seen from the U.S. happens in 2044!
