school board recognition week

The Lee County School District joins districts across the state to thank school board members during School Board Member Recognition Week, February 17-21, for their leadership and service to local school districts and communities.

More than 700 Mississippians are members of local school boards. Board members are responsible for setting the vision and goals for the district. They work to provide a quality education for pre-K through 12th grade students and oversee the district's annual budget.

The school board also hires quality educators, adopts policies, and evaluates progress while keeping the interests of students first. They also serve as the community’s voice in the school district and the district’s voice in the community.

School board members currently serving the Lee County School District are Sherry Mask, Mary Edwards, Greg McKissick, Carrie Bruce, and Mark Simpson.
