Muralist Coming to Saltillo Elementary

Saltillo Elementary has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission, Mississippi Whole Schools, and the National Endowment for the Arts to bring an incredible arts-integrated learning experience to life!

We are thrilled to partner with renowned Mississippi muralist, Tony Davenport, as he works with our 4th grade students to design and paint an interactive learning mural. This stunning artwork will highlight Mississippi’s natural resources, state symbols, and native flora and fauna, turning our school into a vibrant canvas for learning!

Arts-integrated projects like this mural provide engaging, hands-on opportunities for our students to deepen their understanding of Mississippi history, culture, and environment through visual storytelling. They also foster a sense of community, creativity, and pride—helping students connect with their home state in meaningful ways.

A huge THANK YOU to our grant sponsors for supporting arts education and to Tony Davenport for sharing his talents with our students! We can’t wait to see this masterpiece come to life!

“This project is supported in part by funding from the Mississippi Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.”
